Spend a day with Brian Tate and ease those late winter blues! We have two sessions (or both!) to choose from:
• Vocal Technique: Singing With Ease – 9:30am to Noon
• World Rhythms and Songs – 12:45pm to 3pm
Vocal Technique: Singing With Ease
Learn simple, effective ways of improving your vocal technique with easy-to-grasp exercises and tips and that will improve your tone, range, power, and confidence. The workshop will include group singing as well as some individual coaching demos (on a volunteer basis!) Discover how quickly you can be singing with freedom and ease! For all ages and levels.
World Rhythms and Songs
Much of today’s choral music features exciting African, Latin, and Gospel repertoire. In this workshop, you’ll learn rhythms, chants, and songs from African, Afro-Cuban, and Gospel traditions in a lively, hands-on experience that will have you getting in the groove. With a combination of singing and playing percussion instruments you’ll learn syncopations, polyrhythms, and how to use your voice as a rhythm instrument. Easy-to-learn grooves and songs will help your to listen better, loosen up, and create a tighter ensemble. For all ages and levels. A guaranteed good time!
Our Clinician
Now residing in Victoria, Brian Tate is a well-known and popular choral director and clinician. An award-winning composer and arranger, many of his works for choir are published and his music is performed worldwide. Brian directs Vancouver’s 100 voice City Soul Choir, and he recently retired from Studio 58, Langara College’s professional theatre school, where he taught singing and choir at for 22 years. He sings with Dawn Pemberton and Karla Mundy in the world music a cappella vocal trio “TriVo” and is also a jazz vocalist. In addition to his choral work, Brian is also a drummer and percussionist and has had a lifelong interest in music of the African Diaspora, studying music in Cuba and West Africa.
