Voices in Motion Choral Society is looking for a new musical director.

Call for Applications: Musical Director, Voices in Motion

Start Date: September 1, 2025

Located in Victoria, B.C., Voicesin Motion is a multigenerational choir for people with dementia, their caregivers, and young people (highschool and university students). The choir began as a multi-disciplinary research project of the University of Victoria in 2017 and became a non-profit organization in 2021.

Essential attributes for the musical director are love of singing, love of people, warm personality, empathy, and a willingness to learn more about dementia and how best to interact with those with the disease. A solid knowledge of vocal/choral teaching and conducting is required. Knowing how to teach parts by rote, as well as by note, is key to this role. The ability to arrange and adapt choral selections for the choir and the ability to create practice tracks for soprano, alto, baritone parts are required. The musical director must have solid keyboard skills to accompany the choir during rehearsals.

Creating a positive space that emphasizes acceptance, inclusion and reducing the stigma of dementia is an important value of this choir. Convinced that everyone can sing, our new musical director should be ready to work with singers of all levels of confidence and competence and foster social connections.
