The BCCF is a provincial organization with board representatives in communities throughout BC.

Individual Directors are responsible for working with their regional choirs to:

1. Promote & encourage choral activity
2. Strengthen public and governmental awareness of choral plans and achievements
3. Serve as a communication resource for everyone involved

Directors are elected through a nomination-system, requiring 3 signatures and voted on at the AGM held each spring. 

Positions 

Directors represent various areas throughout our province. As well, the BCCF Executive includes the following positions: President, Vice President, Past President, Secretary, and Treasurer. 

Duties and Responsibilities 

• Must hold an Individual Membership in good standing with the BC Choral Federation.
• Attend 3 day-long BCCF Board meetings per year (usually at the end of January, end of May, and end of September). Recently, these have been hybrid meetings (in person in Richmond, BC and on Zoom).
• Serve on at least two Board committees (1 portfolio committee & 1 program). Frequency of committee meetings and activities is dependant on the committee.
• Be the face and the ears of BCCF to your local community. 
• Connect and regularly communicate with member choirs (and individual BCCF members) using whatever means you wish – emails, phone calls, coffee shop meetings, dropping in on rehearsals, going to concerts, tweeting, Facebook messaging, etc. 
• Write and submit summary reports on the choral activities in your region to your Regional Coordinator three times per year.
• Assist BCCF staff in maintaining up-to-date member listings. 

Term & Time Commitment 

• Two-year terms, renewable
• 3 Board meetings per year 
• Time communicating with local member choirs, preparing reports for Board meetings, participating in committees, and supporting staff

Selection 

The BCCF Nominations Committee will review all expressions of interest. The committee will then present a slate of nominees to be approved and/or amended by the BCCF Board of Directors. Selection will be based upon the individuals’ expressions of interest and the qualifications outlined above. All those who have expressed interest in the positions will be contacted directly regarding the outcome of the process. The proposed slate of directors will be presented to the BCCF membership and ratified at the Annual General Meeting on June 6, 2026. 

Remuneration 

Serving on the BC Choral Federation Board of Directors is a volunteer position without any remuneration. Board Members may apply for reimbursement of travel and accommodation expenses in relation to Board members’ duties.

If you are interested in joining the BCCF Board of Directors, please email your Expression of Interest to president@bcchoralfed.com. Please provide a paragraph briefly outlining your involvement with choral music and the skills/expertise you would bring to the BC Choral Federation. In particular, we are currently recruiting regional directors in the following areas of the province: South Okanagan, North Vancouver Island, North East BC. As well, we are recruiting for the Executive positions of Vice President and Secretary.
