Cantus Firmus Choral Lab launches its inaugural season in Vancouver in Fall 2026, creating a professional laboratory where conductors and composers can work directly with professional choral singers.
Designed as a practical space for choral artists, Cantus Firmus brings together 8–9 professional singers, a pianist when required, conductors, composers, and auditors for focused monthly sessions at the Vancouver Academy of Music.
Conductors can gain meaningful podium time with professional singers, develop rehearsal technique and gesture, explore repertoire, and receive feedback and conducting mentorship. Composers can bring new or existing choral works into the room and hear them rehearsed live while developing their music directly with singers and conductor.
The inaugural season explores 15 works spanning different historical periods, styles, and cultural traditions, culminating in a public recital at Koerner Recital Hall on April 30, 2027. Selected participating conductors may also have the opportunity to prepare and conduct an approved work in the final performance.
