BCCF World Chorfest 2018: Where To Eat

With so many fantastic and exotic dining establishments to choose from, you’re going to want to stay in Richmond far beyond the World Chorfest 2018 weekend just so you can put away a few more breakfasts, lunches and dinners! And if you’ve been to our city before, it’s likely you have a few favourite places you can’t wait to come back to. Below are some of our suggestions based on first-hand experience, customer reviews and that oh-so-powerful promotional tool known as ‘word of mouth.’

Breakfast

Richmond has lots of good places to get your day off to a good start. People who are staying at the Sheraton Airport Hotel are very lucky indeed to have both their great restaurant, Harold’s, and a location of Starbucks as choices. There are also several other good places for breakfast within walking distance and if you are up for a car ride there are some lovely spots up in Steveston (about a 20-minute drive) including Chef’s Playground, Davood’s, Cannery Cafe, Cimona Cafe, and more!

Grab & Go

Starbucks has numerous locations around Richmond, or try one of the specialty Chinese pastry shops including Maxim’s Bakery in the Richmond Centre Mall.

Sit-Down

Cora serves only breakfast and lunch so you can bet they are experts at these two meals. Their portions are renowned as being huge, so be sure to arrive hungry. Another place to try is the American Grille just east of the Sheraton on Westminster Highway. They advertise a lovely Breakfast Buffett…

Lunch & Snacks

Did you know? On Saturday, the Adult Choir will be on its own for lunch from 12 pm to 1:30 pm. The BCCF board and the adult choir were given the option on registration of ordering and paying for a bag lunch that will be provided to them at the Fraserview venue; those who chose not to get a bag lunch will be responsible for finding their own mid-day meals. A map and a list of restaurants and take-away places will be provided in the souvenir tote bags and here is a sample of the places on the list which are in reasonably close proximity to the church:

Along Cambie street: McDonalds and Fogg N’Suds are both within walking distance.

Further afield : Going east on Cambie is Cambie Plaza with a Shopper’s Drug Mart for any forgotten essentials and a selection of fast food and sit-down restaurant choices including Church’s Chicken; a well-respected and therefore busy sushi restaurant/sushi bar, Kiyo Sushi; a Subway and even the wonderfully interesting Himalaya restaurant which has a great menu of vegetarian and non-vegetarian Indian dishes  and lots of unusual Indian sweets.

Coffee, Tea and Water: World Chorfest 2018 is very happy to be able to share the news that coffee breaks are on us on Saturday, May 12 at Fraserview Mennonite Brethren Church. Working with the Youth Pastor and Youth Group we are going to be treated to delicious coffee and tea, a good supply of water to refill our water bottles and a selection of breakfast bars in the morning and cookies and some fruit in the afternoon. Likely not enough to warrant skipping lunch, but something to keep us going!

Dinner

Richmond is known for having the largest selection of Chinese restaurants outside of Hong Kong. Within walking distance of the Sheraton Airport Hotel are a number of busy Chinese and other ethnic restaurants and we encourage you to sample something you may not have tried before!

Affordable options: There are lots of reasonably-priced restaurants to choose from in Richmond, including Cactus Club, Earls Restaurant and Harold’s. You could also try the Dinning Terrace at the Richmond Centre Mall. Jumbo Sushi is another affordable option that is close to the centre of Richmond, as is the Gingeri Restaurant in Lansdowne Mall. That is also the location of Number 9 Restaurant – open 24 hours a day for you night owls!

$$$: The Kirin Seafood Restaurant is near the Sheraton Airport Hotel and one of the best Chinese seafood restaurants in town. It’s also worth taking a trip into Steveston to eat at the Steveston Seafood House, a very well-established and busy Steveston landmark. If you do travel to Steveston be sure to visit the Catch Restaurant and Sports Bar, which boasts that their patio has the best view…. And they are right!  With an unobstructed view facing the west it is a beautiful place to take in the sunset.

Vegetarian/vegan: Look no further than Four Stones Vegetarian and keep in mind that many of the other ethnic restaurants have extensive vegetarian menus.

Richmond has great selection, good prices and something to please everyone’s palate. Come to World Chorfest 2018 and stay for all of the things to see, do and eat in Richmond!
