Singabration II inspires singers in 100 Mile House

Timing was everything!  Tenacity and perseverance for the love of choral singing and determination to bring the Kamloops/Cariboo community of choristers together. After a devastating summer of wildfires where most of the Eclectica Community Choir in 100 Mile House were affected by great losses and evacuations, they enthusiastically went ahead with plans from the Spring and hosted over 100 songsters, joining together in song under the capable and inspiring direction of Dr. Adam Con, Associate Professor at the University of Victoria’s School of Music and highly sought-after clinician.

Dr. Con guided the group through several activities that emphasized freeing and using the body’s energy while working on three contrasting arrangements. He demonstrated for the choristers and directors how gesture, body posture and the energy of the director influences sound and nuance in the choir. A round-table discussion with directors over lunch provided the opportunity for several directors to discuss issues of interest. It was a day that built community, enhanced learning and inspired singers and directors.
