Brian Wismath receives Herbert Drost Award
The BCCF is proud to announce Victoria-based conductor Brian Wismath as the latest recipient of the Herbert Drost Award. This honour is bestowed upon individuals, in recognition of their work, dedication and efforts which have provided positive long-term effects on the British Columbia choral community.
Wismath’s name was put forward by The Victoria Choral Society, was approved unanimously, and supported with many letters from the music community – among them Tobin Stokes and Maestra Tania Miller. Miller wrote:
“Brian Wismath cares deeply for singers and musicians, and works tirelessly to prepare them, and to promote their work. I believe, that he leads each performer to do their best. He has made an enormous impact on the music community of Victoria by bringing his skills to the community at large, and by providing excellent opportunities for singers to experience the highest possible quality of choral music. As such, he has impacted the overall arts scene, I know that he gives new skills to choristers ages 18 to 80, and in that respect Brian is making a long-term contribution to choir music in British Columbia.”
Wismath formally accepted his certificate at the BCCF Chorfest 2017 Gala Concert, held May 21 in Victoria.
