BCCF Chorfest 2023: Gibsons

with clinician ROLLO DILWORTH  & Accompanist Toby Aldren
HOST CHOIR – Inspirito Vocal Ensemble (Director Sarona Mynhardt)

Join us for an unforgettable weekend that promises to be magical in every way! Experience the magic and joy of SINGING TOGETHER again, the charm and magic of GIBSONS, entryway to the BC Sunshine Coast, and to ultimately experience the magic that is truly ROLLO DILWORTH!

GIBSONS is just a mere 40 min ferry ride from Horseshoe Bay, Vancouver. The community sits at the southwest corner of Howe Sound, perched on a hillside overlooking several small islands. Fans of the classic CBC TV show The Beachcombers might recognize parts of Gibsons from the show, including the restaurant Molly’s Reach.

Gibsons is located on the traditional territory of the Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish) Nation. Approximately 4,758 people call the Gibsons area home, and it’s a popular spot for artists and outdoor enthusiasts alike.  A popular activity for both visitors and locals is to stroll the quaint waterfront area that offers a public market, unique shops, art galleries, and many wonderful restaurants, all against the stunning backdrop featuring views of Howe Sound, the lively Gibsons harbour, and the soaring coastal mountains. Other popular attractions include visits to one or more of the local breweries that call the Sunshine Coast home, or hiking some of the many memorable trails in the area.

Clinician:

ROLLO DILWORTH, internationally acclaimed conductor, composer, and clinician have chosen a fabulous repertoire of SATB music for us. We will work on these during rehearsals on Friday night and Saturday, and share our gift of music with friends and family at a concert on Saturday evening!

We know that you will love every moment – the passion Rollo Dilworth has for music is apparent in every phrase of his work. For Rollo, the most gratifying moments, personally and professionally, are when all the facets of musical personality and existence come together. In those moments, his passion reaches a new level.

Rollo Dilworth believes that music is a natural way of bringing people together because, as he says, “every single culture across this globe sings.”

Listen here to his video, THE INSIDE VOICE.

Rollo Dilworth is Professor of Choral Music Education and Vice Dean of the Center for the Performing and Cinematic Arts at Temple University. More than 150 of Dilworth’s choral compositions and arrangements have been published—many of which are a part of the Henry Leck Creating Artistry Choral Series with Hal Leonard Corporation.  Additional publications can be found in the catalogs of Santa Barbara Music Publishing and Colla Voce Music, Inc.  Dilworth is a contributing author for the Essential Elements for Choir and the Experiencing Choral Music textbook series, both published by the Hal Leonard Corporation/Glencoe/McGraw-Hill Publications, and for Music Express! Teachers Magazine.  He has authored 3 books of choral warm up exercises intended for elementary and secondary choral ensembles, entitled Choir Builders: Fundamental Vocal Techniques for General and Classroom Use (2006); Choir Builders for Growing Voices (2009); and Choir Builders for Growing Voices 2 (2014).

A frequent presenter at local, state, regional and national conferences, Dilworth has conducted 43 all-state choirs at various levels (elementary, middle school, high school), and has conducted 6 regional honor choirs and 4 national honor choirs (ADCA, OAKE and NafME). He has most recently appeared as guest conductor for international choral festivals and master classes in Australia, Canada, Taiwan, Ireland, and China as well as all-state choirs in North Carolina, Oklahoma, Ohio, Arizona and Massachusetts.  He has also led honor choirs for the Central and Southwest regions of the American Choral Directors Association.  International festival and clinic invitations include Canada, Singapore, Austria and France. He most recently conducted for BCI in 2014.

Dilworth is a recent National Board Chair for Chorus America. He is an active life member of the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA). He also holds memberships with several other organizations, including the National Association for Music Education (NafME), the National Association of Negro Musicians (NANM) and the American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers (ASCAP). Traveling to Gibsons involves a beautiful 40 min ferry ride. There is only one ferry to the Sunshine Coast. It leaves Vancouver from the Horseshoe Bay terminal located at 6750 Keith Rd, West Vancouver, BC V7W 2V1 every two hours. It arrives at Langdale terminal on the Coast which is a short 5 – 10 min drive away from Gibsons depending on ferry traffic.

(Here is the link for BC Ferries Horseshoe Bay to Langdale)

Friday May 26, 2023 – The latest ferry you can take to be in time for the Friday evening rehearsal is 4:45pm. If possible come on an earlier ferry to check into your hotel or Airbnb.

Sunday May 28, 2023 – If you have the luxury to stay until Sunday, the world is your oyster. You can join us for dinner after the concert, and have the time to visit some of our local attractions on Sunday.

We will have suggestions with the following for you when you arrive:
