BC Teen Choir (BCTC)

The British Columbia Teen Choir and British Columbia Youth Choir 2024 groups, collaborating under the direction of Dr. Tracy Wong and Will De Sousa.

What

A choral experience for full choirs, partial choirs, developing choirs and individuals. This weekend workshop is intended to give students and directors a big, musical “leg up!”–The B.C. Teen Choir is one of the BCCF’s top projects, filled with tons of eager, hard-working, and passionate young singers (ages 13-18) from all across the province! B.C. Teen Choir 2025 will be under the direction of the renowned Carrie Taylor.

Singers are given the opportunity to work with one of the Provinces top Choral Educators, and grow their artistry with other musicians in their age group. This is a weekend full of socializing, learning, and growing!

The B.C. Teen Choir will sing alongside the British Columbia Youth Choir 2025 group in Vancouver, B.C.

Only 150 spots are available, so don’t delay in signing up for this great opportunity – particularly if you are planning to bring a large group. We cannot wait sing with you!

Saturday, May 24 & Sunday, May 25, 2025. All rehearsals and concerts will take place in Vancouver, British Columbia.

For Individuals: $75 per singer, due upon registration

For Groups & School Classes: $75 per singer. To secure space for your list of singers, a $200 nonrefundable deposit is due upon registration. We recognize that exact numbers may fluctuate slightly between registration and the event date. We are offering a 10% discount for groups whose final numbers/voicing info and full payment are submitted by March 31, 2025.

Who 

This opportunity is for full or parts of existing Grade 8-12 choirs, teenage community choirs (age 13-18), etc. Perfect for groups that don’t have ideal balance, numbers, experience, repertoire and so forth.  This may include:

  • established choirs that see the educational benefit of this program.
  • developing ensembles: New program? New Teacher? Small Numbers? Untrained Voices?
  • choirs that are experiencing a building year.
  • groups that can’t travel with a full ensemble.
  • individual singers (likely local students only because of accommodation and supervision considerations)

2025 Clinician: Carrie Taylor

CARRIE TAYLOR has been teaching in the public school system for 37 years, where she enjoys teaching both band and choir. Carrie conducts five choirs at Burnaby Central Secondary, ranging from bass/treble groups, chamber ensembles, and a mass concert choir with over 100 singers. Carrie is the coordinator of the B.C. Provincial Honour Choir, and acts as the Educational Consultant for Chor Leoni’s youth outreach programs, where she also directs the Burnaby chapter of the MYVoice program. Carrie founded and co-directs the Vivo Children’s Choir, and in 2022, was honoured by the BC Music Educators’ Association with the award for Outstanding Music Educator – Secondary School.

Carrie studied music at the University of Mary in Bismark, North Dakota and at the University of Victoria in Victoria, BC, obtaining her Bachelor of Music and Professional Teaching Certificate. She also studied at the Banff School of the Fine Arts.

Collaborations

The B.C. Teen Choir, under the direction of Carrie Taylor, will collaborate in a joint concert with the British Columbia Youth Choir, under the direction of Darita Seth, on Sunday May 25.

Last year, the B.C. Teen Choir and Youth Choir shared their repertoire for each other and sang through warm ups and ice breaker activities.

Student Experience

  • A focus on workshopping vocal technique and musicianship skills.
  • Repertoire that’s interesting, diverse and technically appropriate for young voices
  • The opportunity to “rub shoulders” with the BC Youth Choir
    • Sing for each other
    • Share a song at rehearsal and/or a performance
    • Attend a BCYC performance.
  • Perform as part of a gala concert
  • Social events and interaction with other teens
