Vancouver Chamber Choir - NOVA: Rising Choral Stars
NOVA Rising Choral Stars 8 pm Friday, October 15 Ryerson United Church Vancouver Chamber Choir Jon Washburn, conductor Choral music is a very dynamic field, with hundreds of unsung heroes - young or little known choral composers from all around the world who are creating the next generation of wonderful choral pieces. For the first half of this concert Jon Washburn has chosen five talented rising composers which he thinks you will want to know. They are Damijan Močnik (Slovenia), Ivo Antognini (Switzerland), Timothy Corlis (Canada), Fredrik Sixten (Sweden), and Jaakko Mäntyjärvi (Finland). The second half is devoted to more established stars on the current scene: You’ll hear the tuneful and rhythmic Caribbean Mass by Cuba’s Electo Silva; a new (to us) piece by the ever-impressive Eric Whitacre; Morten Lauridsen’s famous O magnum mysterium; and the amusing Weather Report by one of our favourite Brits - Bob Chilcott.
