CHORFEST 2010 - a "Royal" Chorfest
May 7-9, 2010
Chorfest 2010 will be conducted by Bruce Pullan with a Gala Performance at the Chan Centre for the Performing Arts.
Chorfest is the BC Choral Federation's flagship event. Held each May in conjunction with our AGM, Chorfest is a wonderful weekend adventure of singing and choral community-building.
This year's Chorfest:
- Hosted by Richmond Orchestra & Chorus Association - www.roca.ca - more details can be found on their Chorfest 2010 site.
- Rehearsals on Friday and Saturday and the Saturday night banquet at the Delta Vancouver Airport Hotel in Richmond
- Sunday's dress rehearsal and afternoon concert will be at the wonderful Chan Shun Concert Hall at UBC
The program will include:
Handel: Coronation Anthem No. 2 - The King Shall Rejoice
(first written for the coronation of George II in 1727)
Tavener: Song for Athene
(sung at the funeral of Princess Diana)
Vaughan Williams: Let All The World In Every Corner Sing
(the last of the Five Mystical Songs and sung at the Queen's Jubilee
Gilbert & Sullivan: A Regular Royal Queen
(from their operetta The Gondoliers)
Rutter: God Be In My Head
(sung at the Queen Mother's Funeral)
Parry: Coronation Anthem - I was Glad
(sung at every coronation anthem since 1902)
Music can be ordered with registration to Chorfest, and comes with a part-predominant rehearsal CD to help singers come with the notes already learned.
The Chorfest concert will also feature the BCYC under the direction of Dr Debra Cairns, and the debut of the BC Chamber Choir, giving the premiere performance of "Let the Great Song Come" by Imant Raminsh, commissioned by BCCF in honour of Joyce Maguire.

UPDATES: Saturday 24 April, 2010
Friday night's reception has been changed to a "meet and greet" gathering for all participants at the Elephant and Castle restaurant in the hotel. Food and drinks will be available at a reasonable cost.
Lunches: participants are responsible for purchasing their own lunches Saturday and Sunday. Maps will be provided in your registration packages, indicating restaurants close to the hotel for Saturday, and the Chan for Sunday. In addition, Tourism Richmond will be on site during registration Friday and Saturday, if you wish further details re local services, sites of interest.
Please remember to take all the items/clothing you need for Sunday's rehearsal and performance with you when you leave the hotel Sunday am. You will not have an opportunity to return to the hotel until after the performance. As you will need to check out before leaving in the am, luggage may be held at the hotel in a locked room until you return.
Transportation to the Chan - Please remember to contact the registrar, Elaine Yale, if you need a ride from the hotel to the Chan on Sunday.
